An international human rights instrument adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007, establishing the minimum standards for the rights of Indigenous peoples worldwide. Australia endorsed UNDRIP in 2009. UNDRIP affirms Indigenous peoples' rights to self-determination, cultural heritage, land and territories, language, education, and Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) in relation to decisions that affect them. It is the foundational international framework underpinning Standard 1 of the National Standards for Exhibition Touring and the principles set out in the companion First Nations Engagement in Exhibition Touring guidance. UNDRIP recognises and codifies rights that have always existed.
