John R Walker: Forest Song

At a certain point in an artist’s life there is an exhibition which appears fresh and new but simultaneously is reminiscent of key moments in a long career. Forest Song is such a show. John R Walker found single trees and trunks, each with their own story. The sacred ‘scar’ trees of the First Australians, and the trees scarred by floods, bushfires, the elements and ‘man’. They all became his subject and all share the same sense of the struggle of life, and a sense of survival, against the odds.

First exhibited at Utopia Art Sydney in 2025, Forest Song has expanded to include a suite of monotypes. And was exhibited at the Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, November 2025 – January 2026.
