Cultural Safety

An environment in which people feel their cultural identity, authority, and ways of knowing are genuinely respected. Cultural safety challenges power imbalances and is particularly relevant for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse peoples, and others whose identities have historically been marginalised or misrepresented in arts and cultural organisations. Cultural safety is maintained through ongoing practice, listening, and accountability.
